Not with Metrolink; Not charged; Not drunk; and Not driving.

It must be slow at Los Angeles Times today.

It should explain why it is reporting that a no-longer member of the Metrolink Board, was not charged with public intoxication, drunk driving nor any other infraction. The Times' Steve Hymon reports that he confirmed the arrest of a man who isn't being charged with anything. Way to go!

Should a non-story be news?

I heard that the Times has known about the financial scandals of Jackie Autry since last spring when a report was issued about financial hanky panky associated with Autry's merger with the Southwest Museum. But the LA Times continues to cover up for the Mayor's office on that issue in connection with the Autry's effort to move the Southwest Museum from Mt. Washington into Griffith Park. (There are rumors that the Mayor will support Autry in exchange for getting those casino Indian tribes to stop running negative ads about him when he next runs for election. Remember when the Mayor ran against Hahn alleging "pay to play"?)

In public comment today at Los Angeles City Council, the Friends of the Southwest Museum explained to City Council and gave it documents showing how the Los Angeles Times published an article in 2000 reporting Mrs. Autry had given the Autry Museum $100 million. It turns out that Mrs. Autry did not give $100 million in 2000 as announced in the Times but rather gave a pledge to pay $100 million to the Autry museum when she dies.

Since 2000, Autry officials have booked this $100 million pledge (funded by gift in a will) on its balance sheet even though the rules of accounting say a non-profit cannot book a gift in a will as an asset. The Autry's financial statements appear to be overstated by $100 million if it should not have booked the $100 million estate plan gift.

It is sad when the only way the public will learn about this scandal is to watch public testimony on Channel 35 instead of reading some analysis of the controversy in the Times or other mainstream media in this City. The Fourth Estate in this City is dying before our eyes.

THE PROBLEM WILL NOT BE SOLVED BY METROLINK OR THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE THE TECHNOLOGY THEY INTEND TO USE WON'T BE IN PLACE FOR YEARS AND THE ONLY REAL FIX IS NOT TO MIX USE THE TRACKS. ONE TRACK FOR ONE GROUP OF TRAIN CARS.
